About My Classes at Yonsei

Now that my semester is over, I would like to briefly talk about each of my classes.

First, there was Business and Society. We met in-person on Mondays from 11:00AM to 12:50PM. On LearnUs, the Professor posts the lecture slides for the week with a voiceover that you can listen to. Then in class, he would run through the slides again and explain in more detail. Not really much class participation. We didn't have any meeting on Wednesday until later. This was basically the same every week. For our midterm, he allowed us to use a cheat sheet, front and back. Our final was a presentation where we each chose a case from the list he provided us and discuss it. My group of five got the Ventria Bioscience case. There are around 9 groups of 4-6 people so presentations took up the final month and a half of class. Since we presented third, we were basically done with the class in November!

Korea-US Relations was my other class. It was entirely online, and the Professor would lecture the entire class every Monday. Again, not much class participation. On Wednesday, he'd have a recorded lecture that we'd have to write a super short response paragraph on. I enjoyed this class and found it interesting to learn about Korea and the US's history and about North Korea. Highly recommend. The midterm and final were open-book and consisted of short answer questions and two essay questions, which you are given 48 hours to complete and turn in online.

Korean Popular Wave and Culture was also a fun one. I loved our Professor. She was very enthusiastic about the history of Korean music and culture. We got to watch a lot of movies for this class and listen to music. Our class met once a week on Thursday. In place of a midterm, we had three papers to write using her lectures and sources we found online. I thought this class was the most interesting and fun. On some days, she just posted the lecture recording. We only had class discussions in the final month and a half where she'd put us into zoom breakout rooms to chat and then each room would share what we learned afterwards.

*tip: LearnUs keeps track of your % completion such as whether or not you completed watching the whole lecture video or opened certain assignments. So some professors would use that to grade our participation. Make sure to watch your lecture videos on time!!

Lastly, there was Principles of Marketing. This class had the MOST class participation, especially since it was in-person. But it was a fun class! She keeps track of how many times you speak in class and you're graded on that. But don't stress too much. There are cases every other week that you'd need to write a two-page summary on and submit before class on Monday. They're all pretty interesting business cases about marketing! And there would be a really short multiple question quiz at the beginning of every in-person class. It's just based on the lecture from the week before to see if you were paying attention. She has all the slides online to refer back to. My favorite class was when she brought in a guest speaker to talk about the Jim Beam beer. The final was a multiple choice exam.
