Housing (Goshiwon)

Updated: Feb 24, 2023

Hi!

It’s been a few days since I’ve arrived in Seoul. I’m visiting with Sarah Fusato, Tina Vo, and Carson Ikeda.

We arrived at Sinchon airport on 8/17 around 5pm and went through customs in less than a minute. Then, the van we booked through Trazy picked us up at around 7pm (you can schedule the pick-up time) and took us to our goshiwon, Single House Sinchon.

About the goshiwon: Single House Sinchon

To get inside, we went up to “1F.” Then, we called the goshiwon lady. She communicates in only Korean, so we had to either use papago to translate her speech or use any Korean we knew. There’s a lock pad at the front entrance, so she let us in. She’s incredibly kind and helpful and gave us a tour of the goshiwon. It has many bedrooms and includes a cafeteria with free kimchi, rice, and ramen and a kitchen. Always wash your dishes after. There’s also a washing machine and community bathroom if necessary.

We went inside and chose our rooms. I chose Room 109 (Room A). Room type A includes a window, private shower/toilet, desk/drawers, fridge & AC. I HIGHLY recommend this room. Luckily, room 109 already has a water filter showerhead. Two of my friends never had so they bought from Daiso, but they’re having difficulties screwing off the showerhead. Also, you can easily access the convenience store downstairs.

**Note: You have to pay extra for the AC. There’s also a 1-time 30,000 won cleaning fee. My bill for the first payment came out to 580,000 won, and the next time I’ll have to pay 550,000 won (which includes the cost of AC).

**Note: We’re not allowed to flush any toilet paper down the toilet so we have to toss it in a tiny trash can on the side. Other trash (plastic, cans, etc.) must be separated in the bins at the end of the hallway.

**NOT SUPPLIED in the goshiwon (bring your own!): toilet paper, soap, towel.

**HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: Reserve the room at Single House Sinchon ASAP. The goshiwon lady showed us all her text messages rejecting potential tenants because she was completely booked.

It’s quiet but I can meet up and talk with my friends in the cafeteria or in the hallways. It’s a very clean and comfortable goshiwon and is located in a convenient area close to Yonsei.

Since it’s still the pandemic, we had to get tested for COVID-19 within 24 hours, so we booked an appointment online at the Sinchon Railway parking lot. It was right behind the Sinchon station so we just walked there.

Here are some actual photos of the Goshiwon:
